How it Started

At the International School of Helsinki, working with Gr 10 students to explore their role as critical consumers, Rachel asked these learners to audit the branding strategy for local start ups. Their group of “clients” included Mustafa who had designed a card game to connect people. Their chance meeting kickstarted discussions on the need for new types of leadership in society. At the time Rachael’s students were struggling with a bullying situation in the school. The pair began exploring design thinking and collaboration to improve the school climate.

Since then, Rachael and Mustafa have worked with students and teachers to develop a collaborative guided process to design healthier school communities. They believe that there are unique opportunities to enhance everyone’s sense of belonging in each school setting.
